To help with SEO is it’s always a good idea to make sure that you submit your xml-sitemap to search engines that have that capability. Generating your sites xml-sitemap is generally very simple the basic layout of the xml file looks like this.
Now for those of you that have blogs with hundreds of posts it would take you forever to generate you sitemap by typing this out for each post that you have in your blog.
Not a problem there are alternatives to you having to do it. Probably the easiest way for bloggers that are using wordpress is to simply install the XML Sitemap generator for wordpress. This is a great plug-in and works great.Second option is to use xml-sitemaps.com , which has a free version that you can use to index up to 500 pages/posts. Simply type in your website address along with how frequent the site changes. Then download simply download the file that is generated and upload it to your web server. The location of the sitemap.xml file should look like this.

Once you have completed this simply go to your accounts with Google or Yahoo and submit your sitemap to be downloaded. This is the only time that you will need to submit your sitemap to these search engines. Dependent upon how often you set you frequency Google and Yahoo will download your sitemaps on a regular basis. So all you have to do once you generate a new page or post is to recreate your sitemap and upload it to your web server.
